13 People Killed in rain-hit in Sindh
KHAIRPUR: Torrential monsoon rains continued to batter Sindh on Saturday with 11 more people killed in rain-related incidents during the last 24 hours bringing the death toll to 66.
Breaches were developed in two canals in Khairpur district on Saturday inundating a large number of villages and standing crops.
The metrological department has forecast more rains throughout the province in that would continue for another four days, setting for fears of heavy loss of infrastructure in cities and cotton and other field crops in rural areas.
Heavy rains battered vast swathes of the countryside in Sindh during the first three days of Eid, killing dozens of people, breaching canals and flooding vast stretches of farmland.
The spell came as a bolt from the blue for the countless still living in makeshift shelters after last year’s unprecedented floods rendered them homeless.
The recent floods have reportedly affected 400000 homes, and over 150000 people have been shifted to relief camps.
